Interview with the “Violence” – director

Jorge Ferero is on the festival for his new film Violence that shows the daily violence in Columbia and he is telling it with three separate stories.

How did you came up with this idea for this movie?

Ok, do you want the short version or the long story? Well, itstarted out in 2010. I wanted do something important as my first feature film for Columbia, to show the world the violence that exist in this country. How this country is polarized by goverment and it’s middle of the world.

What’s harder: getting started or being able to keep going?

Getting started, it is like swimming you know. When you first getting started you just keep on doing it.

How do you know when a story is finished, when to walk a way?

It’s never finished. Because of the deadline you have to abandon it, and that’s the way it works

How has your life changed from becoming a filmmaker?

I have so much more to do now than before I became a director.

How long time did you take to shoot Violence? Was there any issues during the production?

17 days of shooting and three weeks of production during the summer of 2014. And there were no issues or problem during the this period.

What do you wish to achieve in your career?

Keep on doing what I do.

What is the best and worst thing about being a screenwriter and director?

The best thing is to tell your own personal story, to give it to people around the globe. The worst thing is the criticism you get.

What is your personal favorite movie/series?

Well, that is a hard one. I watch a lot of TV-shows right now so it would be Game of Thrones and The Big Bang Theory.

What was the scariest moment during this production and why?

My editor lost some of the footage for the film and that would mean we lose a lot of money for what we shot. You know, this is a low-budget film and we was really scared that we lost it.

What/Who were some of your major influence when you first started out as a filmmaker?

When I study at the University, we watched a lot of movies. There was some from Japan and some others from Brazil and it was the personal strytelling that caught my interest.

Do you have any good tip for a aspiring screenwriter?

Yes! It’s is important to work with someone who knows more than you do, they can help you on the way. A bad written screenplay is not the end of the world, it’s just a screenplay, you know.

When inspiration is waring, your creativity is sapped, what do you do? How do you stay fresh?

Get out, walk with my dog and get to the park. Keep my thinking away from

Who would you choose as a top ensamble to work with like actors, screenwriter or directors?

I really enjoy with my crew and how we connect with each other. One director I would want to work with is Gus van Santz, the american filmmaker.
