The “Gladiator” – Sequel Has Found Its Screenwriter

Russell Crowe as Maximus in Gladiator (2000)

A Gladiator sequel is still happening. The producers to the sequel, Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald, has confirmed that this film is still happening.

For a while back, we reported that a possible Gladiator sequel was in the making. The first movie was released back in 2000. It was nominated for 11 Oscars and won 5.  Ridley Scott will be returning as the director and Peter Craig, who wrote the final Hunger Games films and The Town, are penning the script. The new film is set to have a time jump on 25-30 years later.

While promoting the new Men in Black, Laurie MacDonald spoked out:

“We’re working with Ridley Scott, that’s one we wouldn’t touch unless we felt in a way to do it was legitimate. We’re working with an amazing writer as well, Peter Craig.”

Parkes adds to her statement.

“It picks up the story 30 years later… 25 years later.”

According to Hey You Guys, rumors say the plot will follow the adult Lucius, son of Lucilla (Connie Nielsen) and nephew to Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix). That could mean it’s a revenge story for Lucius who wants redemption for the death of his father Maximus (Russell Crowe).  But don’t rule out anything yet…
