Nothing is confirmed but speculation reports that British Lashana Lynch replaces this legendary 007 role.
If they want the hardcore James Bond fans to think this franchise that has been over 50 years, suddenly change roles to a different gender, this way is the right way probably. Most fans to the successful series are angry and as Daniel Craig final performance showcases in April 2020, it could be a real change, just like what reports says.
“There is a pivotal scene at the start of the film where M says, “Come in 007”, and in walks Lashana who is black, beautiful and a woman,” the source said. “It’s a popcorn-dropping moment. Bond is still Bond but he’s been replaced as 007.”
Lashana Lynch played earlier this year as Captain Marvel’s co-pilot Maria Rambeau.
Phoebe Waller-Bridge was saying that the franchise needs to evolve:
“There’s been a lot of talk about whether or not Bond is relevant now because of who he is and the way he treats women. I think that’s bollocks. I think he’s absolutely relevant now.
“[The franchise] has just got to grow. It has just got to evolve, and the important thing is that the film treats the women properly. He doesn’t have to. He needs to be true to his character.”
James Bond is retiring is already hinted in the synopsis:
James Bond has left active service when his friend Felix Leiter enlists his help in the search for a missing scientist. When it becomes apparent that the scientist was abducted, Bond must confront a danger the likes of which the world has never seen
This has happened even though that Barbara Broccoli ha said it will never be a female bond, to the Guardian. Remember, Lynch will take over the agent-number, not the role of James Bond even though it has the same meaning. That promise broke rather quickly. but Christoph Waltz is also expecting to return for the role as Blofeld in Bond 25.
