Avatar (2009) - Article

There’s probably not a news flash that since the bought out that Disney has gone overhead to prioritize Fox biggest movie-franchises. This was obvious that this was going to happen.

But what many probably didn’t expect was their demand or aspiration to remake Fox’s newest set of movies. Disney has changed their strategy after they lost the first three quarters and only had Marvel Studios as their safety-net.

Robert Iger, the CEO of the major studio, has said that Planet of the Apes and Avatar is one of the most popular film series. Avatar, that first arrived in 2009 has had none of the footage from the sequels available whatsoever. It’s planned to have four sequels since the first and the first of five has premiered on December 18, 2020. The first sequel is set to be titled Avatar: The Way of Water.

Iger has also said they’re planning to produce movies for Fox on their streaming site DisneyPlus:

“It will probably take a solid year, maybe two years, before we can have an impact on the films in production. We’re all confident we’re going to turn around the results of Fox live-action,” Iger said.

Avatar is probably a safe bet, at least for the first sequel mostly because it’s expected. but with the other, the outcome is different, as Disney has now the power to remake all of these franchises. Then we’ll see what the Disney does to the Planet of the Apes, still remains to be seen. Disney does actually dominates their movies on the box-office.
