According to Ew.com, Director Neill Blomkamp, who is previously known for District 9 and Chappie was planned to direct a sequel to Paul Verhoeven’s 1987 sci-fi classic RoboCop, which reportedly “had a massive effect” on him in his youth.
Though, yesterday morning Blomkamp tweeted out a new update about the project, where he sadly announced that he is “Off Robocop” and are working a new horror/thriller instead.
Off Robocop. I am shooting new horror/thriller and MGM can’t wait/ need to shoot Robocop now. Excited to watch it in theaters with other fans. N

RoboCop Returns is a sequel written by the original writers, Ed Neumeier, and Michael Miner, in drafts back in 1987, which was recently dusted off by Terminator: Dark Fate’s Justin Rhodes.
The details on Blomkamp’s upcoming horror-thriller are not yet released, but in the past, he had hoped to expand on his previously horror shorts – made under his own independent Oats Studios.
