Matrix 4 Is Officially In Works – Key Cast Returns To The Franchise
Perhaps not all are surprised that a fourth upcoming movie of the Matrix is on the Way, since there’s has been a lot of remakes and sequels lately.
Variety has just confirmed, that Keanu Reeves returns to the franchisee together with Carrie-Ann Moss as the lead character as Neo and Trinity respectively. Lana Wachowski is going to write and direct the sequel.
Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures are going to produce and distribute the film globally. Toby Emmerich, from Warner Bros. Pictures announced the news on Tuesday.
“We could not be more excited to be re-entering ‘The Matrix’ with Lana,” said Emmerich. “Lana is a true visionary—a singular and original creative filmmaker—and we are thrilled that she is writing, directing and producing this new chapter in ‘The Matrix’ universe.”
After the success with John Wick 3 and Toy Story 4, the studio is even more excited to have Reeves to return to the film series that boosted his career. The trilogy earned over $1.6 billion on the box office. Both siblings directed the original trilogy 20 years ago.
“Many of the ideas Lilly and I explored 20 years ago about our reality are even more relevant now. I’m very happy to have these characters back in my life and grateful for another chance to work with my brilliant friends,” Wachowski said.
Nothing about the plot is, of course, decided or released, but the shooting is reportedly to start early 2020. This could mean that we’ll get a release potential 2021 at the earliest.
