Amazon Studios Adapts Robert Jordan’s Epic ‘Wheel Of Time’

Amazon has acquired the right for Robert Jordan’s epic fantasy-series for the streaming-services Prime Video. The adaption of 14 -volume, has sold over 90 million copies. It’s also the best-selling fantasy book-series since The Lord of the Rings, which Amazon also is currently adapting.
“The Wheel of Time is endlessly fascinating and resonates hugely with fans as one of the best-selling global book franchises, and we were drawn to its timely narrative featuring powerful women at the core,” said Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke. “We’re thrilled to extend our relationship with devotees who’ve found the book series transformative and welcome new ones by bringing it to life on Prime Video for viewers worldwide.”
Rafe Judkins from Agents of SHIELD and Hemlock Grove is set to be the showrunner to adapt the novels.
“For so many people, including me, this book series has served as a world to escape to, to lose yourself in, to devour and inhabit completely,” Judkins said. “And I couldn’t be more honored to be the one finally bringing that world to life onscreen, for old fans to lose themselves in all over again and new fans to discover for the very first time.”
Executive producers are Larry Mondragon and Rick Selvage from Red Eagle Entertainment, Ted Field and Mike Weber of Radar Pictures. Uta Briesewitz, from Orange is the New Black and Westworld directs the two first episodes.
Rosamund Pike stars as the lead and producer. Jordans widow, Harriet McDougal, is one of two consulting producers. Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television are set to produce the epic fantasy series. Josha Stradowski joins Pike among the cast of Madeleine Madden, Marcus Rutherford, Barney Harris, Zoë Robins, Daniel Henney.
