Amazon Studio is currently adapting a The Lord Of The Rings series, and it’s rumored that actor Joseph Mawle is now joining as lead opposite to Will Poulter and Markella Kavenagh.

The fantasy series will explore new storylines in J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth, and it will be created by J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, with J.A. Bayona as director. Nothing detailing the characters has been revealed yet but it’s a theory that Mawle will possibly play series villain Oren, while Poulter will be Beldor, the hero, and Kavenagh as Tyra, the female lead.

Joseph Mawle has been nominated for a BAFTA TV award for his role in Birdsong. One of his most recent roles was as Benjen Stark in the HBO series Game of Thrones (2011 – 2019), and if he joins LOTR he will not be the only one from the previous mega-hit series, because Bryan Cogman who was a co-executive producer on GoT is now a consulting producer on this project. The upcoming series also have former HBO EVP Production Bruce Richmond as executive producer, which Mackans Film has reported on before.

At the moment Tolkien fans just have to wait and see for more eventual news regarding the project and cast. Amazon has put out a big budget and have casting calls all over the US, UK, and Australia.
