It looks like Disney is developing a revision of their movie Hocus Pocus, the 1993 cult classic starring Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy. It seems that this version will be for their platform, Disney+.

The project is in pre-production so it’s yet unclear if the original cast, such as Midler, Parker, and Najimy, would return or at least make a cameo. It’s also unsure if the movie will be an official sequel to the original. TV writer-producer Jen D’Angelo from Happy Together and Workaholics is set as the writer.

The 1993 film was written by Neil Cuthbert and Mick Garris, with Kenny Ortega as the director. It was based on a story by David Kirschner and Garris.

Deadline.com describes the original film’s plot:

“It chronicles what happens when three villainous witches, played by Midler, Najimy and Parker, are inadvertently resurrected in Salem, Massachusetts,” writes Deadline’s Nellie Andreeva.

Disney had a TV movie in development two years ago that would have been a reimagining of the 1993 film, with Scarlett Lacey as the writer and David Kirschner as executive producer, but the project never got further in production.

Fans just have to wait for more news about the upcoming feature and when it hits the Disney+ platform, and as always Mackans Film will be there to report it.
