See-Saw Films is making an Elizabeth Taylor biopic called A Special Relationship starring Rachel Weisz as the famous actress turned activist.
The script is by Simon Beaufoy, from Slumdog Millionaire fame, and will follow her life, especially her friendship to assistant Roger Wall.
Variety.com writes about her:
“Taylor won Oscars […] and was nominated a total of five times. Though famous for her glamorous lifestyle and multiple marriages, she also took a crusading role in the fight against AIDS, which stemmed from her hiring of Walls, a gay man who grew up in poverty in the homophobic Deep South, in the mid-1980s,” writes Variety’s Dave Mcnary.
The film will be lead by the directing duo, Bert&Bertie, while being produced by Iain Canning, Emile Sherman, and Simon Gillis of See-Saw Films, together with Danny Perkins, Barbara Berkowitz and Tim Mendelson as executive producers.
Rachel Weisz, who will be playing the famous actress, has won an Oscar for best-supporting actress in the film A Constant Gardener.
“Audiences are clearly fascinated by the private lives of iconic Hollywood stars […] There is no one more iconic than Elizabeth Taylor, and Simon Beaufoy has written a role that shines a light on Elizabeth’s humor and humanity, which will be beautifully brought to life through the extraordinary talents of Rachel Weisz,” commented producers Canning and Sherman.
Fans of Weisz can already see her in the upcoming 2020 film Black Widow.
