It looks like Star Wars actor Adam Driver is in talks with Ridley Scott’s team for an eventual co-star role opposite Matt Damon in the new upcoming film.
The script is by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, along with Nicole Holofcener as a co-writer. Damon and Affleck will also work as producers, in company with Jennifer Fox, director Scott, Kevin Walsh and Drew Vinton from Pearl Street Films. Madison Ainsley will be the executive producer. The whole project will fall under Disney–Fox cooperation.
Variety.com describes the eventual plot:
“Set in 14th century France, the movie is an epic tale of betrayal and justice, told from three distinct points of view: two knights […] whose bond is tested by treachery and a young woman […] forced to navigate the brutal and oppressive culture of the era in order to survive,” writes Variety’s Justin Kroll.
It’s rumored that Affleck wanted to be in one of the lead roles opposite Damon, but it seems he needed to decline thanks to scheduling issues and instead accept a supporting role with actress Jodie Comer. It looks like Driver is the one whos filling the lead-gap, but nothing has been officially announced yet.
The Last Duel is not yet fully green-lit but it appears that the filmmakers have at least got an okay to proceed so the production should begin in early 2020. Fans of Driver can see him reprise his role as Kylo Ren in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker later this December.
