Disney is continuing to move forward with their original content for Disney+, this time it’s for the happy Mickey Mouse to share his story in a documentary for the streaming service.
The documentary is expected to be produced by Morgan Neville and Directed by Jeff Malmberg and aims at the impact this character has had over the years. This is a part of an overall deal by the production company Supper Club, together with Disney.
The streaming service is going also relaunch Walt Disney’s 1950s Oscars-winning series of documentaries, short films and more. Gillian Jacobs, known from comedy-series Community, is expected to direct the first episode. Disney has also acquired the world distribution rights for Howard, a critical-acclaimed documentary. This documentary, with Mickey Mouse, still doesn’t have a name.
The news arrived from Disney’s non-fiction display in Los Angeles, October 18th:
“Disney has a rich history in nonfiction storytelling that dates back to the 1940s,” Disney+ president of content and marketing Ricky Strauss said in a statement. “The projects announced and showcased here today reflect Disney+’s commitment to building on Walt’s storytelling ethos and core values of creativity, innovation, and exploration.”
The platform Disney+ is launching in some territories of the world on November 12, 2019.
