Gone Girl (2014) and How I Met Your Mother (2005-2014) star Neil Patrick Harris is now apart of the cast in the fourth Matrix installment.

The four-time Golden Globe-nominated actor joins Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss, along with Yahya Abdul-Mateen II who got announced last week as one of the leads. Neither Harris’ role nor the plot has been made public yet, but it’s rumored that a young Morpheus, previously portrayed by Laurence Fishburne, may appear but nothing has been confirmed.

It was announced in August by Warner Bros. that the film was in the making, and that it was being produced by them and Village Roadshow Pictures. The company has tried in recent years to make the new installment but got slowed down thanks to hold-ups with the producing rights, and only later got the project up to speed through director Lana Wachowski’s script and Keanu Reeves’ rising box-office numbers.

The script is being penned by Wachowski with Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchell as co-writers. Wachowski will also produce the film together with Grant Hill, and it looks like the production will start in early 2020.

Jada Pinkett Smith who played Niobe in the previous three films is still in negotiations about if she would return.

However, for Harris is this a great milestone at a big studio. His recent include Netflix’s “A Series of Unfortunate Events” and Alexander Payne’s “Downsizing.”
