Paramount Players buys the film rights for Planet of the Nerds comic.
The eventual movie project at the moment has onboard Todd Garner, from Isn’t It Romantic and Tag fame, as the producer, along with Sean Robins from Broken Road, which is the company that is currently working on the upcoming Mortal Kombat film for New Line Cinema.
Hollywoodreporter.com describes the comic’s plot:
“The comic tackles today’s pop culture dominance by all things geek through the eyes of […] the jocks […] The story tells of high school jocks from the 1980s who are accidentally frozen by an experimental cryogenics device, and revived almost 40 years later. They awake in today’s computer-driven, superhero movie-loving world, now ruled by nerds, and react the only way they know how: by declaring war on the status quo,” writes Hollywoodreporter’s Borys kit.
The comic is written by Paul Constant and illustrated by Alan Robinson, together with Randy Elliott and Felipe Sobreiro as the colorists. The comic has got good reviews from the relatively newly started comics company, Ahoy Comics, and hits stores as paperback tomorrow, Oct 29, 2019.
Paramount Players are already looking for a screenwriter.
