Robert Zemeckis is set to direct the Pinocchio, the next installment of Disney’s live-action series of remakes with beloved old classic animated movies.

With Zemeckis as director, Andrew Miano and Chris Weitz are the producers with their production company Depth of Field. Weitz writes the script. Paul King, the director of Paddington was originally attached to helm the position as the director but had to drop out earlier this year for unknown reasons. So now is Zemeckis looking for someone to play his Geppetto. Tom Hanks was about to take on the role but passed.

The animated original told the tale about a puppet that had to prove himself worthy to become a real boy. Prior to this, Disney has before already released Aladdin and The Lion King that both crossed the billion dollars in box office earlier this year.

Zemeckis has recently made dramas The Walk, Allied and Welcome to Marwen. He’s probably most known for his franchise Back to the Future, which revolutionized the science-fiction genre in the 1980s.
