”Friends” In Development On HBO Max As A Reunion Special
The six main cast members from the hit sit-com-series Friends is expected to return in a reunion special on WarnerMedia’s own HBO Max next year.
With over 25 years since the premiere of the popular comedy-series, the original of six is expected to return for a reunion to talk about the series featuring Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer together with David Crane and Marta Kauffman.
This special is only a rumoured special, as there is much that ain’t confirmed and that everyone’s schedule is set to be settled first. Netflix is losing Friends after WarnerMedia did reclaim the rights for the series as Netflix bid $80 million dollars as Warner Bros paid $425 million dollars for five years. Therefore, Netflix was outbid by Warner Bros.
Jennifer Aniston has expressed interest with her co-stars that there is a possibility for a reunion, featuring all six cast-members:
“We would love for there to be something, but we don’t know what that something is. So we’re just trying. We’re working on something.”
With a reunion of this series, a popular as such – the streaming service would need to attract the audience. DisneyPlus released November 12, gaining 10 million subscribers at launch day and they have also the highly anticipated The Mandalorian (2019-) in their library. Otherwise, they could end up just like AppleTVPlus, with barely any recognition.
Friends leaves Netflix January 1st, 2020. HBO Max launches in May 2020.
