The sequel to the most profitable R-rated movie ever has been confirmed to be on the way.
Joker has crossed $billions on the box office. Even with the open-ending, Joker provided, the sequel is officially on the way. It won’t have Waynes original story that we have seen so many times before. A new Batman is already on the way and hits theatres on June 25, 2021.
Both director Todd Phoenix and Joaquin Phoenix is attached to the project. Philips has also talked to Warner Bros for a movie with another DC villain.
“Long before the release or before we had any idea if it would be successful, we talked about sequels,” Phoenix said. “In the second or third week of shooting, I was like, ‘Todd, can you start working on a sequel? There’s way too much to explore.’ It was kind of in jest — but not really.”
The duo has also remarked in several interviews that the tone and story would be altered in the new film.
