Yahya Abdul-Mateen II Lands ‘Matrix 4’ Role
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II from Aquaman (2018) fame has now got a lead role in Lana Wachowski’s Matrix 4.
It’s been announced through sources that director Lana Wachowski has chosen actor Abdul-Mateen to join Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss in the lead for the upcoming sci-fi movie. It was this August that Warner Bros. officially announced a fourth “Matrix” movie has gotten a green-light and that some of the familiar faces will return, such as Reeves, Moss, and Lana Wachowski who will take on the roles of writer and director – this time without her creative partner and sister Lilly.
Lana has written the script together with Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchell, along with that and directing, she will also produce it with Grant Hill under a Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures collaboration. The production is set to start at the beginning of 2020.
Fans of Abdul-Mateen have recently seen him in the role as the villain Manta in Aquaman (2018), Lupita Nyong’o’s father in Us (2019) and his starring role in Black Mirror (2011– ), and until he jumps into the Matrix-universe he will also be starring in Aaron Sorkin’s “The Trial of the Chicago 7” and Jordan Peele-produced “Candyman”. Neither Wachowski or Warner Bros. have announced yet an official plot or Abdul-Mateen’s specific role, but the film is set for a 2022 premiere.
