The director of the upcoming film from Marvel named Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has left the project as a director.

Variety reports that Scott Derrickson is set to remain as Executive Producer but leaving the director part to someone else.

“Marvel Studios and Scott Derrickson have amicably parted ways on ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ due to creative differences,” Marvel said in a statement to Variety. “We remain grateful to Scott for his contributions to the MCU.”

According to the studio’s statement, Derrickson left due to creative differences.

The film has production start in May and there should not be any delay. They’re already looking for a replacement.

The first film, from 2016, was wildly popular and grossed over $670 million at the box office. Benedict Cumberbatch is set to return, and Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlett Witch will join him in the sequel, which has premiere in May 2021. Until then we’ll have Black Widow, The Eternals and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings at the beginning of next year.
