World-renowned civil rights defence attorney Bryan Stevenson works to free a wrongly condemned death row prisoner.

As often you might think about a drama in a court, it often tends to drag and stale the narrative for the worse as it doesn’t comprehensive the plot and focus on the characters. This obtains in its core to be a true story; much is on overdrive. It’s also very on pinpointing everything and every character needs to explain themselves every single time they do something.

The systematic racism is on top constantly in the law authorities for the character that Michael B. Jordan is portraying, so in terms of that – it’s a very provocative story as this character feels undermined by the society and their colleagues. As this is a powerful story, that is aimed to make it feel personal and it works. Even if the character feels distinguished from each other and makes an impact on the audience, the plot itself can feel a little stale.

The film is about Jamie Foxx’s Walter McMillian who in the film is accused of a murder he didn’t commit. Bryan Stevenson (Michael B. Jordan) gets deep in McMillian case and gives his best to make him free. His relationship deepens even with his client family and it gets very personal to this lawyer, which the movie tries hard to point out. Not to mention how pretentious his character is. It goes to easy for him to win this case, he doesn’t really have an obstacle or other problems. Everything just goes to easy for his character which tends to be a very boring trait.

The other character, the supporting actors, gives a decent job to empower the main leads in their roles. Brie Larson’s character also makes an impact with her hair and her ambitious to help co-worker on the voluntary bureau that deals with convicted prisoners and preventing them from getting into the electric chair.

Brie Larson is also decent in her performance, she’s really flat in how she portrays this character. Even if you care about the character, none of them makes a brilliant performance. Nonetheless, the editing is the best part of this movie as the pace making it worth watching as this feature film has a long run runtime.

The music is tame, and some character is very flawed, and the story doesn’t make it appealing. As this is based on a true story, which means also mean the plot is not that difficult. It’s very simple plotted and the end makes no more impact whatsoever. The plot is decent, the editing is the only thing that makes it worth watching and the performance is just above average.
