National Treasure 3 In Development At Disney
Disney has been eager for a while to relive old franchises and the trend doesn’t stop, not even with a third National Treasure in mind.
“Bad Boys for Life” is getting a follow-up and screenwriter Chris Hemner is set to pen the script. Bremner is also writing the third National Treasure. Jerry Bruckheimer is expected to return as the producer as he produced earlier films.
Nicolas Cage as cryptologist Benjamin Franklin Gates brought in $347 million worldwide for the first film in 2004 and $457 million for the sequel in 2007 National Treasure: Books of Secrets. Disney’s CEO Bob Iger has mentioned this on shareholder meetings before and believes that Jerry Bruckheimer is eager to produce a third movie.
“They have talked about a number of different possibilities both on the creative side and from a timing perspective and I just don’t have anything to announce, though I did speak with Mr. Bruckheimer not long ago about it and I know his passion for that franchise remains pretty strong,” Iger added. “We love those first two films too, but we’re not quite there yet.”
Jon Turtletaub was the director for both movies with a cast including Justin Bartha, Diane Kruger, Harvey Keitel, Armando Riesco and Jon Voight. Turtletaub has also said earlier that if this would become a reality, it would be on DisneyPlus. Not a theatrical release.
