Lucasfilm Prepares A New Phase Of Star Wars Films
J.D Dillard and Matt Owens have been selected to develop a new Star Wars project.
Hollywood Reporter has reported that LucasFilm has gone in a new phase of Star Wars content. But for the time being it’s unclear if it for cinema or exclusively on Disney+.
J.D Dillard has directed Sleight and Matt Owes has penned Luke Cage and Agents of SHIELD. Plot details have not yet been revealed for this project. Much of the new project is still unknown.
Disney CEO Bob Iger has said that Disney will furthermore prioritize their platform for releasing new content.
“the priority for Star Wars in the short term is going to be, I’ll call it television for Disney+, and then we will have more to say about development of theatrical soon after that.”
It’s reported that Kevin Feige from Marvel Studios has been the one who pitched the film and whether Dillard is set to direct is also unclear. Disney and Lucasfilm have determined to release content exclusively for Disney+ in order to boost the platform, so the hiatus for the theatrical release is still in order. The planned films of the next set of movies from Star Wars remains still for Dec. 16, 2022, Dec. 2024 and Dec. 2026. Matt Owen is currently working on Netflix live-action adaptation of the popular manga One Piece.
