Healthcare professionals, government officials and everyday people find themselves in the midst of a worldwide epidemic as the CDC works to find a cure.
This film was released back in 2011. That’s 9 years back. A lot has happened since that time. It didn’t were that popular at the box office but perhaps it has more attention now than ever. Even if it’s now all accurate in its narrative. This film was directed by Steven Soderbergh and starring Matt Damon, Kate Winslet, Gwyneth Paltrow, Laurence Fishburne and Bryan Cranston.
Gwyneth Paltrow is the first person to be sick, the patient X that showcase the whole pattern of the disease around the world. Winslet and Fishburne are the heroes and doctors from the CDC. Jude Law plays a critical blogger that criticize what the initial response from the government might be. Matt Damon plays Paltrow husband and doesn’t really grasp the seriousness of the outbreak in a weird performance.
The film itself staggers and does only break the attention by showing a small part of the outbreak. Even after a month, the whole world becomes a worldwide pandemic, compared to what we essential facing now. The narrative is only general and now deep-dived which would give it a far bigger impact on this issue. The performance from the cast is uneven. There’s no clear leader among the cast as they more or so rely on data of infected people.
There is a lot of things that make it even worse in this storyline and doesn’t really make sense in how the story continues. A lot of decision-making doesn’t make sense either. It’s a generic overview of the story that essentially ends happily. The virus spreads rapidly, of course, but the overview spans for a too long of a time, which make it is even more difficult to compromise the problem and the effect fictional the virus has. It’s a competent cast but the immersive and intimate feeling in potential this film could’ve had doesn’t exist.
I wish it was more intense and show the more true nature for the outcome from the outbreak of the virus. This film had the potential to be something more of this effect but it makes it more and more of this political. It could’ve been more efficient and more accurate to make it more entertaining.
