AN INSIGHT ON ONE OF

THE MOST HIGHLIGHTED TRIALS IN USA

Created by the same producer that shaped the world of American Horror Story, the spin-off anthology that focuses on real crime stories; American Crime Story delves deep in the psyche on crimes and the aftermath for it.

In the first season of this series, where every season stands for itself, attracts well-known actors such as Sterling K. Brown, Kenneth Choi, Cuba Gooding Jr,  Nathan  Lane, Sarah Paulson David Schwimmer, John Travolta and Courtney B. Vance among other talents.  With a cast who most of the time resembles its real-life counterparts, some are over-playing it while others play it smooth and give a believable performance throughout the season.

O.J Simpsons killing is never revealed in its own right, only by graphic dialogue and images.  Cuba does a decent job as the former athlete but on occasion, there’s a slight over-playing with the character to make it stay believable. David Schwimmer’s Robert Kardashian, a close friend to Mr Simpsons, has a good response to the killing and makes the most development over time once the trial of Simpsons is finally over.

Sarah Paulson plays a lonely parent that tries to keep her family together at the same time she runs a high-profiled case as a prosecutor. At many times, it feels forced. As none of the other characters family-life is dealt with, she has the most problem. You will get insight sporadically in others private life once in a while, but a lot of time is spent on her private life. Too bad that it is only for the sake for the audience, not the story. Paulson’s performance is not always believable and that she would get in an affair with her co-worker feels underwhelming and are distracting focus on the story as a placeholder.

Courtney B. Vance iconic voice and performance is the true highlight of the entire series. His charisma and tactics in how he delivers lines in a scene is outstanding compared to other actors, who are bleak in comparison. Throughout these ten episodes with forty-fifty minutes per episode, he shines through like a sun on a cloudy day. John Travolta and Nathan Lane give decent performances in their roles.

As understandable, a lot of the series goes into the trial-drama. It’s also what determines the whole series as an appointed timeline as well, which is much appreciated to some extent. The show manages to keep it interesting and keep you engage with these characters despite the actor’s flawed performance. Some moments that occur, could be a response of a satiric approach to the core-material.

Once the verdict is revealed, it’s the end and a closure for the character. The showrunner did manage to narrow done a lot of months of trial, into a sensible and intriguing court-drama. It is worth watching if you interesting to see what happened to O.J Simpson in an FX anthology-series.
