Some countries have managed to cope with the pandemic and New Zealand’s government has allowed Amazon Lord of the Rings to resume production.

The Avatarsequels has also got its permission to resume production in New Zealand. New Zealand is one of few countries in the world that has managed the COVID-19 pandemic in a proper manner and therefore a paradise for a filmmaker. The productions are in a total of 206 cast and crewmembers and will create over 3,000 jobs and add another $400 million to the country’s economy.

Our success at managing COVID-19 gives our country an opportunity to become one of the few countries still able to safely produce screen content.” Economic Development Minister Phil Twyford said. “The inquires and interest we are getting from international production houses tells me that the international film community sees New Zealand as something of a global safe haven.”

The anticipated series Lord of the Rings was already in production in Auckland once the pandemic hit. The shooting hadn’t started but pre-production had. Some of the cast and crew had to return home and others were requested to quarantine in  New Zealand for a while.
