MGM Television Signs New Partnership-Deal With K2 Studios
MGM Television has signed a new deal with the K2, a company common to produce IMAX documentary content.
The studio is set to produce a set of series together with K2 including programming in wildfire, science, nature, and adventure. The deal also includes distribution and insight into the new content that K2 Studios are producing.
“From the first time I watched a K2 film, I was determined to get in business with them. Their experience in Imax and other Giant Screen formats is unparalleled,” said Barry Poznick, MGM’s President of Unscripted & Alternative Television and Orion Television. “MGM has long wanted to focus on the factual documentary space, and this is the perfect partnership to help grow our new division. We’re excited for all of the possibilities that lay ahead.”
The first series of eight pieces will be narrated by Sam Neill; Sea Lions Life by Whisker, which continues its production as theatres are reopening due to the corona-pandemic.
K2 Studios President Mark Kresser added, “We are thrilled to join forces with MGM, arguably the most storied studio in Hollywood, with an unmatched history of success for nearly 100 years in both film and television.”
For the time being K2 Studios has either produced or distributed over 16 documentaries for IMAX. Other documentaries include a Journey to Space, narrated by Patrick Stewart.
