The Crown, Netflix’s top-notch series has gained millions of viewers as the series covers the Queen of England for the beginning of her reign to the present time. The series has shifted the main cast after the second series and will do that too once season five is in production.

This means that over six seasons, the same characters will be played by three different sets of actors covering several time periods. With the first two series covering the young years of Queen Elizabeth years, the current season of third and fourth covers the Queen’s middle-ages, only closing with Imelda Staunton and Margaret by Lesley Manville in the final two seasons that take place after the millennium. The final two season covers the final time of the Majesty latest and final time, with production start 2022.

At the beginning of the year, showrunner Peter Morgan announced only five seasons but later changed to six seasons.

“As we started to discuss the storylines for series five, it soon became clear that in order to do justice to the richness and complexity of the story, we should go back to the original plan and do six seasons,” he said at the time.

Luckily, the filming of the fourth season wrapped before the pandemic Coronavirus hit hard around the entertainment industry and that could mean also that upcoming series lands on Netflix in the final months this year.

“I really never imagined that, and barely imagined it getting recommissioned to even do the middle-aged, as it were, part. But it just seems to have worked out.”

The first two series were played by Claire Foy and Matt Smith. The third and fourth will be played by Olivia Colman and Tobias Menzies. The fourth will have Imelda Staunton as the Queen and Margaret Lesley Manville. Prince Philip has not yet been cast for the time being. Season five starts filming 2021 with air date on Netflix in 2022.
