Avatar was a smash-hit success when it was released back in 2009 and has only been dethroned by Avenger: Endgame (2019) and now director James Cameron says that the second film has wrapped filming and almost done with the third film.
Cameron has shifted the dates for the upcoming sequels a couple of times already after the instant success of the film. And it didn’t go better with the global lockdown on the film industry but as pandemic hasn’t been cruel in New Zealand as it has been in the United States. James Cameron talked to Arnold Schwarzenegger on how the filming went on his channel:
The back-to-back production of the Avatar-films has been given effect as they’re shooting the films in a row.
“We lost about four and a half months of production. As a result of that, we’ve rolled around one more full year for a release in December of 2022. That’s been announced already. Now that doesn’t mean I have an extra year to finish the film, because the day we deliver Avatar 2 we’ll just start working on finishing Avatar 3. So where we are right now, I’m down in New Zealand shooting. We’re shooting the remainder of the live-action. We’ve got about ten percent left to go. We’re a hundred percent complete on Avatar 2 and we’re sort of ninety-five percent complete on Avatar 3. So we’re very lucky in that we chose this as our production site years ago.”
This would mean that the product has been undergoing a lot of planning to make this work, and what seems like it has been worthwhile doing it. Kate Winslet, Edie Falco, Michelle Yeoh Vin Diesel, Oona Chaplin, Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Joel David Moore, Dileep Rao, Stephen Lang, Matt Gerald, Jemaine Clement, and Sigourney Weaver is some of the cast members included in the feature.
The sequel is scheduled for release in 2022, the third in 2023, Avatar 4 in December 2025, and the fifth film in the series in 2027. The first film of Avatar is available on DisneyPlus.
