H.G. Wells novel The Island of Dr. Moreau from 1896 is adapting to a TV-Series.

The series is titled Moreau and will be written by Zack Stentz, who penned X-Men: First Class, Thor, Rim of the World.

“The double helix wasn’t even a twinkle in Watson & Crick’s eye when H.G. Wells first wrote The Island of Dr. Moreau, but his 1896 novel proved astonishingly prescient about how unlocking the secrets of DNA would open the door to humanity playing God with the natural world in strange and frightening ways,” said Stentz.

The series follows Dr. Moreau who works in genetic engineering who finds a billionaire backer who tries to stop at nothing to reach the next step of human evolution.

“This series gives us a chance to work with Zack, one of the most prolific writers in the business,” added Geoffrey James Clark, Executive Producer, Gunpowder & Sky. “We couldn’t have genetically engineered a better writer for this project and can’t wait to take sci-fi fans on a wild ride with Zack driving.”

H.G. Wells novel has been adapted several times before and has been a cornerstone for the sci-fi genre. It has been produced as a feature film in both 1977 and 1996. Dust has prior to this teaming up with Derek Kolstad,  the creator of John Wick and John Davis together with Black Label Media who produced Sicario, La La Land. Of course, no release date has yet been revealed.
