Universal Pictures plans to reboot the ‘Scorpion King’ franchise with Dwayne Johnson and Dany Garcia own production company Seven Bucks Production.  

Jonathan Herman is set to pen the script. Garcia and Johnson are producing with Hiram Garcia. It will be a new director and a new lead actor as Johnson up booked through 2022.  There’s no indication that Johnson will appear, but a lot could happen and we might get an appearance from him when it finally times for principal shooting.

The originals narrative followed a warrior defending his homeland against an evil army. The new reboots story is vague for sure. However, it will be set in the modern time era. Initially, the character was Johnson acting debut, which made him the famous actor he is today.

The Scorpion King was my very first role ever on the silver screen and I’m honored and excited to reimagine and deliver this cool mythology to a whole new generation,” said Johnson. “I wouldn’t have had the career I’m lucky enough to have had it not been for The Scorpion King and I’m thrilled that we at Seven Bucks Productions can help create those same opportunities for other hardworking actors today. I believe Jonathan Herman will put in the hard work to deliver a fantastic script for our global audience.”

Jay Polidoro and Tony Ducret will be executive producers via the studio. Dwayne Johnson’s ex-wife and business partners shared some thoughts as well.

Herman has been a successful writer on behalf of the studio for his work on  Straight Outta Compton,  which in the end landed a nomination for an Academy Award.
