Recently, the second film about Patty Jenkins Wonder Woman has just premiered on HBO Max and in theatres on Christmas Day. The director has also announced that the third film is in development.
Diana Prince returns in the sequel Wonder Woman 1984, even if it doesn’t live up to everyone’s expectation – a third film is still in the works. The studio Warner Bros. has sped up the process for the filmseries and wants Patty Jenkins to return for writing and direct the final film in the trilogy.
“As fans around the world continue to embrace Diana Prince, driving the strong opening weekend performance of ‘Wonder Woman 1984,’ we are excited to be able to continue her story with our real-life Wonder Women — Gal and Patty — who will return to conclude the long-planned theatrical trilogy,” said Warner Bros. chief Toby Emmerich.
The film earned $16,7 million during the weekend, from 2,100 North American theatres. And half of HBO Max active users on 12,6 millions watch the film during Friday which means it broke a new record for the streaming service. Patty Jenkins has said in an EW interview that she won’t direct the third film unless it’s released to theatres as it usually would.
Wonder Woman 1984 stars Gal Gadot, Pedro Pascal, Kristen Wiig and Chris Pine. Wonder Woman will also show up in Zack Snyder’s Justice League on HBO Max in March 2021.
