Kantemir Balagov has been hired to direct HBO’s The Last of Us, the video-game adapted TV-series.

Balagov has prior to this directed Beanpole. As reported before, Craig Mazin is set to write and ex-produce the series together with Neil Druckmann. The series takes place 20 years in a dystopian world after the modern civilization is destroyed by a virus. It follows the smuggler Joel and teenage Ellie through a journey fighting for survival.

The Last of Us is a co-producing project between Sony Pictures Television, PlayStation Production, Word Games, The Mighty Mint and the game-developing company Naughty Dog. Representative executive producers are Carolyn Strauss, Evan Wells, and Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan.
