Hollywoods pretty-boy Keanu Reeves still get the job done, starring in both adaptions of his own comic.
The fifty-six-year-old has landed a magical deal with Netflix as he starring in a live-action adaption of his comic BRZRKR which tends to be ultraviolent and an anime-series based on Boom! Studios successful comic. Reeves is set to star in both adaptions and produce as well. Ross Richie and Stephen Christy will produce for BOOM! Studios and Stephen Hamel are set to produce for Company Films.
BRZRKR is a “brutally epic saga about an immortal warrior’s 80,000-year fight through the ages. The man known only as “B” is half-mortal and half-god, cursed and compelled to violence… even at the sacrifice of his sanity. But after wandering the earth for centuries, B may have finally found a refuge – working for the U.S. government to fight the battles too violent and too dangerous for anyone else. In exchange, B will be granted the one thing he desires – the truth about his endless blood-soaked existence…and how to end it.”
While the feature-film is adapting the comic, the animated series is set to explore other elements of the comic-book itself. The comic intension is to run 12 issues. Reeves came up with the story and concept working together with former Marvel/DC writer Matt Kindt and Ron Garney who made the art. The indie publisher BOOM! Studios have sold over 615,000 copies of the comic which is a big number for them. Netflix has the intention to build its own library like other streaming-services as WarnerMedia/HBO Max and Marvel Studios has done with DCEU and their Cinematic Universes.
As this is a first step forward for the indie publisher in the multi-deal with Netflix, no date or details on the projects has been revealed. However, as Keanu Reeves has a lot of things to say about it, he can do it whenever he can, so probably start next year, 2022.
