Succession follows the Roy family, owners of media conglomerate Waystar RoyCo. The family patriarch, Logan Roy (Cox), has experienced a decline in health. His four children – removed oldest son Connor (Ruck), power-hungry Kendall (Strong), irreverent Roman (Culkin), and politically savvy Shiv (Snook) – all with varying degrees of connection to the company, begin to prepare for a future without their father, and each begins vying for prominence within the company.

BEST FINALE BUT EMPTY ROAD

Few series has been capable of keeping the quality intact like HBO’s Succession. This season takes off from where we left off with the cliffhanger of season 2, Kendall giving in the finger in front of the world press to his father and revealing him for the world. This season is mostly about the children trying to get along and get a deal on who will be taking over the company, but it is someone else instead. An outsider from the family.

Maybe it’s because of the pandemic, these seasons don’t have complicated scenes or erratic behaviour like the other seasons, it doesn’t come near the first nor the second season of this complicated family business. Most of the series has become useless. Characters yelling at each other, profanities and discourse that don’t lead somewhere. A lot of episodes include just empty talk scenes, which some viewers enjoy but I don’t appreciate these empty series where the series doesn’t move forward in any direction.

Brian Cox, as Logan Roy, is still the best actor in this ensemble. Jeremy Strong as Kendall Roy gives an emotional journey for the viewers to follow, which is important to mention as well, how he has shifted his loyalty against his father and the companies. The writing is overall satisfied but most of the season, we’re waiting for something grand finale that doesn’t really exist which in the end becomes a failure. This anti-climactic cliffhanger doesn’t have an appealing approach to the whole plot.

Adding that to the mix, we get some interesting guest stars like Adrien Brody and Alexander Skarsgård as swindling investors, which Logan Roy tries to get instead to invite his children to secure their future. Logan Roy’s health gets even worse this season, and the aggressivity is still there and the fourth season seems to need to explore that point of view even deeper than before.
