Sony Pictures universe of Marvel characters is expanding, now with Madame Web who’s getting her own feature film.

Dakota Johnson is officially in talks to helm the lead. S.J. Clarkson is tapped to direct the pic. Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless are writing the script. The character from the comics, Madame Web are an elderly woman with myasthenia gravis and relied on a life support system looking like a spider web. The woman has also psychic sensory powers, often compared to Doctor Strange. Sony Pictures has for a long time has searched for a female-driven film based in their own Marvel Universe, which is a soft win for the studio with Johnson being the front-runner.

Sonys Venom: Let There Be Carnage has earned $500 million worldwide and Spider-Man: Now Way Home grossed $1.7 billion in worldwide sales. Clarkson is one of the directors for the popular drama-series Succession and she has directed Collateral.
