The TV-Series will be a prequel to the movie It and are currently in development at HBO Max.
The working title is Welcome to Derry, set in 1960 leading up to the first film of Andy Muschietti’s It: Part One. It will also include the origins of Pennywise the Clown based on Stephen King’s work. Director Muschietti is set to executive produce the series together with Barbara Muschietti and Jason Fuchs.
Muschietti’s and Fuchs have developed the story for the show while Fuchs is writing the script. Warner Bros. Television is producing behind the project, considering Warner Bros also has produced the two films. If the series gets greenlighted and moves forward, it would be another example of WB creating a series based on an existing Warner Bros. film franchise.
Colin Farrell’s The Penguin from The Batman is another TV-project WB are working on. Gotham PD and Arkham Asylum are two other projects that have been stuck in development. The two It -from Andy Muschietti, has been a success and grossed over $1.1 billion at the global box office. Not clear yet if Billy Skarsgård returns as Pennywise the Clown, but time will tell. Keep tuned for more information.
