
The project of a computer-animated Mario and his friends with Chris Pratt in the lead has moved back.
The film, from Nintendo, Illumination and Universal Pictures, with Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor Joy, Charlie Day, Jack Black, Keegan-Michael Key and Seth Rogen to star has officially been pushed back from its holiday release to April 7th, 2023.
Chris Pratt is playing Mario, Anya-Taylor as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike.
Both Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic are directing the film based on a script from Matthew Fogel, the writer of Minions: The Rise of Gru. Nintendo and Illumination are producing with Universal Pictures financing the project. Chris Meledandri, Illumination’s founder and Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto, the legend behind Mario, will produce the film.
The last time Nintendo produced a film with the plumber brothers, was in 1993, the game company has been hesitant of any film projects ever since.
