Hollywood seems to have a tender tendency in having an aspiration or even fascination with folklore and legends. This time it was the raging Viking called Amleth, the original inspiration for Hamlet by Shakespeare. It’s a full-blown action-filled revenge film with chaotic, screaming scenes and adrenalin pumping like never before. A herald of Vikings breaking ground to get what they cherished the most. Burnings villages, raping, ravaging and killing with brutal gory details in its most excruciating form.

Just like in Hamlet and The Lion King, his father has been killed by his father, and he flees and returns with a chaotic vengeance. It’s a mesmerizing adrenalin kick unlike any other with few movies that can top this unlike if you are watching Nicolas Cage screaming. The energic approach to the story and the character makes a thrilling, blood-thirsty atmosphere where Alexander Skarsgård gives everything despite the story might be the hook. It’s the atmosphere, the production design that sells the movie just like the cinematography and the music banging in your head melting with the Viking crazy shenanigans.

It pushed boundaries on what could and could not make, making the story worth watching over and over. The details bleeding into each other upbrings are unlike any other. Anya-Taylor Johnson as Olga works flawlessly in her aid to helping Amleth. Robert Eggers’s third film brings the Nordic mythology to a nuanced reality that brings something exciting to the audience.

It’s the film that set a new tone in the genre, mixing horror-fantasy elements to the action, and will be remembered for the beautiful settings and the cinematography incorporated within the magnificent landscape of Iceland and Norway among other.  In the end, it’s an adrenaline-filled story from start to end and even if the story is far too familiar, the whole concept is intriguing and sells well despite the talks of penis gods and fighting in the nude.
