Jon Watts, the director of Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far From Home and Spider-Man: No Way Home has quit Marvel’s upcoming project for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Jon Watts has made the following comments:
“Making three Spider-Man films was an incredible and life-changing experience for me. I’m eternally grateful to have been a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for seven years. I’m hopeful we’ll work together again, and I can’t wait to see the amazing vision for Fantastic Four brought to life,”
Marvel’s president Kevin Feige and Louis D’Esposito have responded in a statement about Watts’ withdrawal.
Collaborating with Jon on the Spider-Man films has been a true pleasure. We were looking forward to continuing our work with him to bring the Fantastic Four into the MCU but understand and are supportive of his reasons for stepping away. We are optimistic that we will have the opportunity to work together again at some point down the road.
Just like Spider-Man, Fantastic Four is also a work that Stan Lee worked on and makes it relatable for the audience. In 2015, Josh Trank directed a film with the group to the dismay of the fans. Since 2019, when Disney bought 21th Century Fox, fans have been eager to wait for a film doing the comic books justice. However, Jon Watts will be involved with the project in one way or the other.
