Disillusioned at the thought of taking down another “mark,” depressed, low-level hitman Barry Berkman seeks a way out. When the Midwesterner reluctantly travels to Los Angeles to execute a hit on an actor who is bedding a mobster’s wife, little does Barry know that the City of Angels may be his sanctuary? He follows his target into acting class and ends up instantly drawn to the community of eager hopefuls, especially dedicated student Sally, who becomes the object of his affection. While Barry wants to start a new life as an actor, his handler, Fuches, has other ideas, and the hit man’s criminal past won’t let him walk away so easily.
DARKER THAN BEFORE BUT STILL FUNNY
In the third season, we get deeper into the wicked world of Barry. Barry and Sally have gone deeper in the relationship. A lot more is revealed than before. The tension is ramping up and more people know that Barry likes to kill people with an easy way out.
The series also goes deeper and darker than before although the comedy is still there. Just more subtle than before. Barry still tries to make up for the shit he has caused to his friends. He seeks forgiveness where he can’t have it. He wants to do things but never succeeds ever in this series. His desperation will get him injured. Bill Hader’s Barry struggles occasionally in this season to find his gem. He fails far more in this than before
Noho Hank gets in trouble and creates havoc along the way. Sally takes a big role in this season compared to the others and there’s a little mind-game in-between Barry and Fuches. It’s a mind game that tracks back to earlier season. Henry Winkler, who plays Gene, is still so wonderful in this series. A force majeure for sure. There’s less acting studio in this series which I probably for the better as it could be a little bit tedious.
This season ends with an unpredictable cliffhanger that brings questions out. It also declares a justified tailored story for Barry to make a redemption, clearing his name. Let’s just hope that he won’t stay far too long in jail taking the edge of the show. This season is better than before for sure however it’s far darker, twister and sadder than before with revealing and taking down mafia in gang conflicts. The season is far more complicated than before in a new light.
