
German film director Wolfgang Peterson has been announced at age 81.
Peterson died from pancreatic cancer in his house together with his wife Maria Antoinette. He’s the filmmaker behind Das Boot, The Never Ending Story, Enemy Mine, In the Line of Fire, Outbreak, Air Force One, The Perfect Storm, Troy, and Poseidon. The director started his career in Germany but came to Hollywood in 1981 where he directed Das Boot, a claustrophobic epic during WWII. A film that was nominated for six Academy Awards.
Peterson has worked with Mark Wahlberg, Dustin Hoffman, Morgan Freeman, Clint Eastwood, Harrison Ford, George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Rene Russo, Glenn Close, and Diane Lane. Peterson was born on March 14, 1941, in Emden, Germany. He started his career by directing short films in the 1960s and 1970s.
