Prime Video has ordered a live-action TV show with Ridley Scott to executive produce.

Scott directed the original Blade Runner in 1982 and now there’s a follow-up series to Villeneuve’s sequel. A series that takes place 50 years later. Silka Luisa will write the script and executive produce with Alcon Entertainment together with Scott Free Productions and Amazon Studios.

“The original Blade Runner, directed by Ridley Scott, is considered one of the greatest and most influential science-fiction movies of all time, and we’re excited to introduce Blade Runner 2099 to our global Prime Video customers,” said Vernon Sanders, head of global television, Amazon Studios.

Director Ridley Scott is best known for his work in films, including Alien, Gladiator, Black Hawk Down, and Prometheus. He’s been nominated for three Academy Awards (Best Director for Gladiator; Best Adapted Screenplay for Gladiator; and Best Original Score for Gladiator). In addition to directing, he’s written screenplays for films like Blade Runner, Thelma & Louise, and American Gangster.

“We are honored to be able to present this continuation of the Blade Runner franchise, and are confident that by teaming up with Ridley, Alcon Entertainment, Scott Free Productions, and the remarkably talented Silka Luisa, Blade Runner 2099 will uphold the intellect, themes, and spirit of its film predecessors.”

Blade Runner 2049 is a sequel to Ridley Scott’s 1982 science fiction classic Blade Runner. Harrison Ford reprises his role as Rick Deckard, while Ryan Gosling portrays LAPD Officer K. Jared Leto joins the cast as Niander Wallace, CEO of Nexus 6 – a replicant manufacturer – who sends K out on a quest to find Rick’s former partner, Joi. Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Lennie James, Mackenzie Davis, Robin Wright, and Dave Bautista round out the cast.

“We are delighted to continue our working relationship with our friends at Amazon. And we are beyond excited to continue to extend the Blade Runner canon into a new realm with the provocative storyline that Silka has created,” added Alcon Entertainment co-CEOs and co-founders Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson.

Denis Villeneuve directs the film, which is based on Philip K. Dick’s novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? Kosove and Johson are set to executive produce the series with Michael Green, Ben Roberts and Cynthia Yorkin. Tom Spezialy has also been attached to the project and produce the series executive.
