Netflix Expands Ryan Murphy’s Popular Crime-Series
No big surprise here. The Netflix audience like raw or maybe even thrilling series. Both Watcher and Monster get renewed, following both series’ success.
Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story has thrilled the global audience and Netflix has pushed Ryan Murphy to make more of the content. Two more seasons are ordered. A second season of The Watcher has been greenlit as well. Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story is the second-best series Netflix has in the English language, after Stranger Things.
If Murphy does the deal, which expires soon, is unclear. He told New York Times;
“I might not do anything,” he said. “I might retire and launch a line of beeswax products. I would not be surprised if I moved to the East Coast and changed my life completely. I just bought a farm and I’ve always wanted to be a farmer. I grew up in Indiana. My backyard was a cornfield.”
Evan Peters’ interpretation of the serial killer has truly captured audiences’ expectations as it is about to reach 1B hours of views. Netflix has untold what the other installment in the anthology series would focus on. The company has said that the series would “tell the stories of other monstrous figures who have impacted society”. Peters is in the series together with; Richard Jenkins, Molly Ringwald, and Michael Learned. The series was created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan.
Bela Bajaria, Head of Global TV, Netflix, said;
“Audiences can’t take their eyes off Monster and The Watcher. The creative team of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan on Monster along with Eric Newman on The Watcher are masterful storytellers who captivated audiences all over the world. The back-to-back force of these two series is due to Ryan’s distinct original voice which created cultural sensations and we are thrilled to continue telling stories in the Monster and Watcher universes.”
The Watcher is set to reach 125M hours of views and stars Mia Farrow, Terry Kinney, Jennifer Coolidge, Richard Kind, Margo Martindale, Joe Mantello, Noma Dumezweni, Christopher McDonald, Michael Nouri, Isabel Gravitt, and Henry Hunter Hall with Naomi Watts and Bobby Cannavale in the lead.
