Rick Sanchez, a depressed, alcoholic, abusive, madman (who also happens to be a genius scientist with the ability to travel through dimensions) returns to his daughter Beth’s life after two decades of being silent between the two. He finds her married to an incompetent, pathetic man named Jerry, and the couple has two teenage kids. Summer, the oldest girl, is a rebellious teen looking to have more friends at school, and Morty, the youngest child, and boy are anxious, quiet, and sweet kid. Rick makes Morty his sidekick and takes him on hilarious Interdimensional adventures, causing poor Morty to become steadily more miserable due to Rick’s insane, abusive, and careless attitude.
The American animated sitcom Rick and Morty has before delivered on the point, making the groundbreaking comedy for why we love the series. Well, use to. It’s like the producers and writers don’t care about the show anymore. The storylines don’t add up either to the form they had prior to this season.
The animation is still top-notch per se but the tension and the emotional aspect of what’s expected have never been achieved. It doesn’t compensate for a distinct bad season, where few episodes stand out as entertaining and worth giving a watch. There’s a difference in these later seasons, both seasons 5 and 6 had that essential of being too meta. The exploring episodes seem to be long gone. The complexity that has been a pillar stone before, has been dumbed done to a mediocre slur that doesn’t correspond to its true potential. All this meta-storyline becomes tedious and drainage of poor writing. It’s not funny enough and the delivery of tacky jokes doesn’t finish well. The essential storyline doesn’t feel the void. The stories haven’t impressed enough either.
No expectations were fulfilling enough, at least those with the highest effort. Not that there was a massive expectation behind it. Instead of renewing the series, maybe the networks should put the series to rest instead of forcing the writers to cough up fairly mediocre episodes that don’t achieve the prior standard. It’s obvious that after last season, the show went to a different stage in making only mediocre, half-witty episodes that don’t look what they should.
It’s a disappointing season, that continues a destructive trend.
