James Gunn has confirmed a new superman movie for DC, a younger version of Clark Kent. This means that former Superhero Henry Cavill won’t be in it.

Henry Cavill has officially stepped down as Superman in James Gunn’s film. It doesn’t mean that he can’t be that hero in other films, nor he has denied that fact. It’s just that he won’t be cast in Gunn’s film.

“I have just had a meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran and it’s sad news, everyone,” writes Cavill,

“I will, after all, not be returning as Superman,” he writes in an Instagram post   “My turn to wear the cape has passed, but what Superman stands for never will.”

“After being told by the studio to announce my return in October, prior to their hire, this news isn’t the easiest, but that’s life,” writes the actor,

“The changing of the guard is something that happens. I respect that,” Cavill added. “James and Peter have a universe to build. I wish them and all involved with the new universe the best of luck, and the happiest of fortunes.”

Since Cavill debuted as Superman in 2013, he has earned the studio big cash. First with Man of Steel, then Justice League and Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. All movies have grossed over $2.8 billion dollar on the box office.

The film industry is changing and it could change again, so don’t take it for granted. Cavill announced Superman’s comeback on October 24th, so a lot could change before the film is hitting theatres.

According to a twitter thread, James Gunn has considered Ben Affleck to direct one of the films in the next slate for DC after Gunn’s takeover. A post that he posted on December 15. And this won’t be a origin movie, according to Gunn.
