Gladiator Sequel Has Found It’s Lead

The long-awaited sequel to Ridley Scott’s epic has found its lead in Paul Mescal. A sequel with Scott returning for directing, following Lucius’ son.

Paul Mescal, from Normal People, has been in negotiations to play the son of Maximus that had a prominent role in the original film from 2000. Ridley Scott will produce with Scott Free, together with Michael Pruss, Doug Wick & Lucy Fisher through Red Wagon Entertainment. David Scarpa pens the script. Production designer Arthur Max and Costume designer  Janty Yates are set to return to the sequel. Universal Pictures and DreamWorks produced the first film but DreamWorks won’t return. Universal Pictures will handle the rights.  The new sequel is produced for Paramount.

Mescal is set to play Lucius, son of Lucilla, played by Connie Nielsen and Commodus played by Joaquin Phoenix. The youngling will train effortlessly for the role and Ridley Scott has said that after Napoleon starring said Phoenix, will be directing the sequel of Gladiator II. Napoleon will release in 2023, and thereafter we might get more news on this matter.
