INCOMPLETE STORY FORCES DEUX EX MACHINA
The fourth season, part two, of You takes off almost immediately after the end of the first batch of episodes. The pace is picked up better in the second part. The writing is riveting for sure, but just like the former, it struggles plenty with setting the tone right in the beginning. It takes shortcuts that doesn’t all makes sense.
The tension is improved for sure. The characters is aligned in a more proper way. Kate and Joe are working together, deeming their relationship. It is also revealed a big twist, which makes a unreliable treat to the whole series. It’s first indicated that Marianne was lost in the crowd and now in the latest episodes it’s revealed that Joe captured her and held her for a long time.
It’s also revealed that Joe has become crazy enough, to think that Rhys has become his alter-ego. Another persona just like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Joe’s own classmate starts to random investigate him, for some reason. Here’s were Ed Speelers Rhys and Penn Badgley chemistry makes the first scenes work so well. Even Greg Kinnear makes an appearance is a pleasant surprise, something that the production wanted to keep a secret.
Ed Speelers is one of the better one in this series. The twist and turns, not that unpredictable, deems to improve the overall quality for the season. It even forced Badgely to shave of the beard, finally. Penn Badgely is not good in this part of the season; it only focuses on other characters and their perception of Joe. Kate is surprisingly absent in this batch. Once revealing how she’s on the whole ordeal is odd, especially when their path hasn’t been explored enough.
It ends with Joe and Kate back in New York City reconstructing their story within a big interview, adjusting each lie, forming a new path for next adventure
