The director has made both films and TV series in Norway and abroad, and is now back with THE LAST VOYAGE OF THE DEMETER, based on the terrifying chapter “Captain’s log” from Bram Stoker’s classic novel, “Dracula” from 1897.
Dracula has been portrayed many times, but never before has a Hollywood horror-film been done based on one single captain like this one. The comments comes from Nordisk Film Distribusjon.
“My aim has been to make a terrifying and intense horror film, preferably the scariest Dracula film ever. The story and setting can in many ways be compared to Alien, only that we are on a ship in 1897, and the monster is Dracula. And it’s a big and adventurous journey across Europe with the crew of an old cargo ship. It was an incredible experience to make it, with all the challenges of making a film in such a setting, on a ship, with storms, water and rain, and lots of VFX, practical effects, stunts, special effects make up… all at the same time …”, says director André Øvredal.
The cast contains of Liam Cunningham, David Dastmalchian, Corey Hawkins, Aisling Franciosi, Martin Furuland and Javier Botet as Dracula.
“It was an absolutely fantastic experience to work with André Øvredal and Amblin. Getting to be part of such a big Dracula film is simply raw. And with such an insanely good cast and crew, this has been an adventure,” says Martin Furulund.
The Last Voyage Of The Demeter is set to premiere in August 2023, distributed by Nordisk Film and Universal Pictures. It’s produced by Amblin Entertainment and DreamWorks Pictures.
