In the latest week, attacks from Russia have been relentless in cyberattacks against Tietoevry, making it impossible for Swedish moviegoers to book tickets. Now, a Swedish movie company urges movie-goes to fight back, in the way they can.

Carnifex is a horror movie produced by Australian Dancing Road Production and distributed by Cinnect Sweden in Sweden. Arvet Agency handles the distribution rights in the Nordic market. This is according to a press release.

‘The purpose of the cyberattack from Russian hackers is to damage Swedish business and trade and to demoralize our spirit. We cannot let them win. We must take a stand,’ says Grace Maharaj, CEO and producer at Arvet Agency.

The company Arvet Agency urges their cinema audience to buy tickets during this weekend’s premiere. A third of the ticket revenue will be donated to Sweden-Ukraine Fundraising Foundation.

‘By asking the cinema audience to support our film during the premiere weekend, we directly confront hybrid warfare by having a business strategy that also stands up for liberal democracy. We all have a part in the game to make this a success,’ concludes Grace Maharaj.

Carnifex, from 2022, premieres in Sweden on January 26, 2024.

The official synopsis reads:
As Australia recovers from unprecedented bushfires, Bailey (Alexandra Park) an aspiring documentary filmmaker joins conservationists Grace (Sisi Stringer) and Ben (Harry Greenwood) as they travel deep into the Australian outback to track and record the animals left displaced and devastated by the fires. As night falls, the trio discovers a terrifying species and quickly becomes the ones being tracked.
