Ron Howard’s sense of directing drama and authentic retelling of historical events are shown in Amazon Studios Thirteen Lives, a drama chronicling the rescue events taking place in a cave in northern Thailand. The film follows the first two divers who volunteer in the rescue mission taking place in Tham Luang, then three other divers that complete the mission and save all 12 boys and their football coach.

The problem with the film is that it doesn’t specify how the football team got trapped in the cave. It is not necessary to happen but more detail on how and why would be nice. For the most part of the movie The film spends a lot of time Following the diving team into the Cave and how did you it wider doing it, than every obstacle on the way. The film stars Viggo Mortensen, Joel Edgerton, Colin Ferrell, and Tom Bateman. Mortensen plays Rick who is sceptical to even save the boys while Farrell’s interpretation of John portrays a more humane, distinctive diver assuring the boys to save them. Edgerton plays Dr Harris who drugs the boys during the final rescue phase.

The film details also the political and local’s concerns for the mission. For instance, he has a ticking bomb to tell with. The timeline shows how the mission progresses. The ticking bomb is the moonsuun that might drown the football team. The rain is a constant ticking indicator and the time and media pressure are supposed to play an important emotional asset to deeper the story. Briefly, it works. The culture and the atmosphere of the local Thais are easy to buy. It’s easy for the audience to buy their worries even if it’s a tedious obstacle in the end. Even I’d we know the outcome and the runtime is far too long, it’s an easy yet suspension told film and it’s a movie that doesn’t waste much time with subplots. It’s very informal in how the way to the cave is made.

We don’t get a deep portrayal of characters between their swims however there are few indications that show what role they are about to play and that is more than enough. Mortensen proves his strength in playing a leading role and gives a sense of confidence that the other cast follows with ease. Ferrell gives his character a more assuring character, seeing that everyone is okay and gets a normal role, finally. Often he plays a criminal or has a weird accent. Tom, Paul and Joel give good, decent performance, adding it to the whole male ensemble. Also, even with the outcome in mind, it’s a certain different thing to experience the fear and drama that puts the whole team apart.
